Prof Roger Phillips

Roger Phillips

Prof Roger Phillips is a Research Professor at the University of Hull. He has a BSc, MSc and PhD in Computer Science all from the University of Manchester. Prior to his appointment at Hull in 1990, he was a lecturer at the University of Manchester and then UMIST for 17 years. At Hull he was Head of the Computer Science Department for seven years. Since 1992 his research has focused on the novel application of computer technology to medicine including novel applications in radiotherapy, interventional radiology and cardiology. In 2002 he set up the Hull Immersive Visualization Environment (HIVE) to provide state of the art visualization facilities for the University of Hull. He is also a founder member of CRaIVE, set up in 2002 to promote virtual environment training for Interventional Radiology.

Over his career he has published some 150 articles, supervised over 30 PhD and MSc research students, been awarded over £4M of research grant funding from EPSRC, BBSRC, HEFCE, EU, and the Department of Health. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and won the coveted UK IT Award from the BCS in 1995. He was a member of the EPSRC College for 7 years. He is currently on the Editorial Board of the International J of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, Joint Editor of the Annual Proceedings of Medicine Meets Virtual Reality and a conference reviewer for MICCAI, CARS, MMVR and ISRACAS
