James Ward

James Ward has a BEng in Software Engineering and is currently a Research Lecturer in the Simulation and Visualization Research Group at the University of Hull and has been a researcher there for some 13 years. His research interests are related to computer graphics, virtual environments, visualization, and development of novel applications of these. His current research applications include radiotherapy, interventional radiology, archaeology and behavioural research. Previous major research projects include a virtual environment trainer for knee arthroscopy surgery, an image guided robotic system for performing osteotomy surgery around the knee joint and a flight simulator for a paraglider.

His current role involves both the design and development of software and management of a software development team. He has played a key role in establishing the Hull Immersive Visualization Environment (HIVE) which provides state of the art visualization facilities for the University. He is the main technology adviser for HIVE. James has over 20 research publications and supervises MSc and PhD research students. He won the Medipex Yorkshire and Humber Innovation Award in 2006 for his work on the virtual training system for radiotherapy.
